One person hurt in three-vehicle crash

MORRISON – A Prophetstown man was injured in a head-on crash Wednesday morning on U.S. Route 30, just west of state Route 78 near Morrison.

Houston W. Sulouff, 27, of Sterling, was eastbound about 7:27 a.m. on Route 30 when he stopped his truck to turn into Rock River Grain and was struck from behind by Clifford D. Oates, 61, of Lone Rock, Wisconsin, who was hauling a load of scrap, according to a State Police news release.

In his effort to avoid hitting Sulouff’s truck, Oates was struck by Alan D. Sommers of Prophetstown, who was westbound in Route 30. Oates’ vehicle rolled onto it side, spilling scrap into the north ditch. Traffic was re-routed for nearly an hour while crews worked the scene.

Sommers was taken to Morrison General Hospital with what police said were non-life threatening injuries. His condition was unavailable Wednesday.

Oates was cited for improper lane usage.
