Dear Congressman Adam Kinzinger:
I have been told that you will be holding a forum with your opponent, Sara Dady, on May 14.
This forum, which is not open to the public, will be broadcast by WCMY (1430 AM) in Ottawa, a city that just happens to be where one of your congressional offices is located.
In our democracy, it is important for people to understand where a candidate stands on issues. Debates are an important way for the congressional candidates to discuss issues that are important to a district’s constituents – issues such as tariffs, health care, possible changes in government programs such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, etc.
Ms. Dady has requested that you meet her for four debates so that these issues can be discussed.
I, therefore, request that you schedule several debates with Ms. Dady and that these debates be held where the public can attend. We, your constituents, need to be fully informed before we mark a ballot on Nov. 6.
