The following politicians and organizations responded to the shooting at Dixon High School on Wednesday morning:

Gov. Bruce Rauner (on Twitter)

"Today, we should all be very thankful to school resource officer Mark Dallas for his bravery and quick action to immediately diffuse a dangerous situation at Dixon High School."

U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Channahon

“As we continue to gather more information about the shooting incident at Dixon High School this morning, I extend my deepest gratitude to the Dixon Police Department, and especially the school resource officer on site, for their swift action today and for keeping our students, teachers, and our community safe."

Sara Dady, Democratic challenger for Kinzinger's 16th District Congressional seat (on Twitter)

"We cannot delay in enacting effective laws to keep guns out of the hands of those who should not have them. Bless the school resource officer, teachers, administration and students in Dixon."

State Rep. Tom Demmer, R-Dixon

"The decisive actions taken by officer Mark Dallas today prevented what could have been a tragedy on a massive scale at Dixon High School. I know I am joined by many in the Dixon-area and throughout the state in thanking him for his bravery; he is a true hero. His actions today also show the importance of school resource officers and the essential role they play in public safety by protecting students and teachers each and every day.”

David Simpson, Democratic candidate for the 45th state Senate District

“Although we have some good gun laws in Illinois, apparently they don’t go far enough to create safe communities in Illinois. Thankfully, because the school district and the security officer on duty acted swiftly, there were no fatalities at Dixon High School this morning. With the new gun dealer licensing bill being voted on in the state senate today, it is critical that we do more as a state to make sure guns don’t end up in the wrong hands.”

Illinois Education Association President Kathi Griffin

“Our hearts are heavy with the news of another school shooting. The quick, brave actions of Dixon Police Department school resource officer Mark Dallas stopped the gunman and saved many lives. Today's events will undoubtedly cause some to wonder if arming teachers will somehow be a deterrent, a way to keep our children and our schools safe. But that’s not what our educators have signed up for. It’s the job of a school resource officer, and we commend him for keeping our students and staff safe.”

Fraternal Order of Police Labor Council Executive Director Shawn Roselieb

"We are extremely grateful that all of the students and staff at Dixon High School will be able to return to their homes unharmed today. The officer's actions at the high school will be closely scrutinized, but the simple fact is, nobody but the gunman was hurt today, and keeping students and teachers safe is the primary job for school resource officers. A tragedy was averted today in Dixon because a police officer put his life on the line to protect his fellow citizens.

"We have FOP staff in Dixon today and they will assist local authorities wherever possible while continuing to provide the counseling and support that we give to Illinois law enforcement officers involved in on-duty shootings.”
