STERLING – A west end Sterling discount store is changing names and hiring.
Family Dollar, 301 Ave. G, will close the last 2 weeks in March and reopen April 4 as a Dollar Tree, assistant store manager Savannah Rosenbaum confirmed Tuesday. Both stores are owned by the same company.
Signage is up informing customers of the transition, and all current merchandise is 20 percent off. A Dollar Tree banner hangs inside over the entrance.
The three part-time and two full-time employees will remain; five more cashiers will be hired, Rosenbaum said.
The change will not affect the existing Dollar Tree at 4311 E. Lincolnway, Kayleigh Painter, Dollar Tree investor and media relations manager, said Thursday.
Dollar Tree is open 7 days a week and sells all of its items – seasonal decor, household products, party and craft supplies, pet items, dinnerware, food, teaching and school supplies, health and beauty items, toys, books and more – for $1or less; prices vary at Family Dollar.
The Chesapeake, Virginia-based Dollar Tree bought Family Dollar for $19 billion in 2015, beating fellow low-price general store chain Dollar General. Family Dollar also operates a store in Morrison, and Dollar Tree has a location in Dixon.
