Letters to the Editor

Thanks, but no apology necessary

This is in response to Kurt Glazier’s letter in the May 31 edition of Sauk Valley Newspapers demanding an apology from the writer.

First and foremost, our 1st Amendment rights allow for him to speak his opinion. One might not like or agree with opinions, but that is why we live in America. I suggest Mr. Glazier consider what may have prompted the statements – possibly the representative’s voting record? She voted “no” on the Equal Rights Amendment. She voted “no” on increasing salaries for teachers, a predominantly female profession. She voted “no” on the Reproductive Health Act. In fact, McCombie is usually a “no” vote. This hardly shows compromise or working across the aisle.

In my opinion, it is the Republican Party and its members who owe all Americans an apology. The racist, inflammatory, and sexist language comes right out of the Trump playbook. Sometimes you must call a spade a spade.
