In addition to providing a top-notch, affordable education, Sauk Valley Community College is a terrific community partner. The college has been offering both extended and day trips to all members of the community for quite a few years, and due to popular demand, has been adding to those opportunities.
"People want to travel and experience places they wouldn't normally visit on their own," said Brenda Helms, Community Education Coordinator for SVCC. "Recent day trips we've offered have included traveling to Milwaukee and Galena, and to Chicago for shopping, baseball games, and visits to see the Shedd Aquarium and Hamilton: An American Musical."
Helms coordinates and chaperones the trips. "Last August, I organized a trip for an Odyssey Luncheon Cruise on Lake Michigan, and the company sent me information promoting their new river cruise with their glass boat," she explained. "We had a great time on the lake, and I thought this would be fun as well. It's not your typical trip, since it includes a nice 3-course lunch on the ship. Travelers will also have a few hours to spend at Navy Pier after the cruise."
The Odyssey Chicago River Cruise features a beautiful 140-foot glass-enclosed (even on top!) vessel. The interior is climate-controlled, and a DJ will provide musical entertainment. The ship will cruise up and down the main and south branches of the Chicago River for approximately two hours.
Join Helms and fellow travelers on Friday, August 2nd from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for this fabulous excursion. The trip, for ages 10 and up, includes transportation to and from Navy Pier, the cruise ticket, lunch, the bus driver's tip, and snacks on the bus. The trip is limited to 54 participants, so sign up today! For more information, and to see additional day and extended trips offered by Sauk Valley Community College, please visit svcc.edu/trips.
